Dr Stainthorpe joined the Oxford AHSN in November 2018 to lead the market access team – a group of talented health economists and analysts working with NHS organisations and industry partners on the value of new technologies and steps towards adoption. Andrew brings to the role extensive experience and expertise in Health Technology Appraisal (HTA), having led technology appraisal programmes for National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for five years. He also led a successful market access consultancy company for three years, advising companies bringing new technologies into the European health sector. Andrew also has 10 years’ experience leading NHS research units and set up the UK’s Research Integrity Unit (UKRIO).
In leading the market access team his key role is client liaison – directing projects to develop focussed, effective solutions to inform and improve value for new technologies in HTA and reimbursement decision making. Andrew’s specific areas of expertise are in value and pricing work, input on HTA and devising relevant managed entry/patient access propositions. He also brings experience in the assessment of medical devices through his leadership of the NICE interventional Procedures Programme and in Ultra Orphan drug assessment, genomics and diagnostics.
